The secret of getting started

I was just glancing through Brian Judd's book marketing newsletter and found a quote from Mark Twain:

"The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small, manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one."

A lot of successful folks have said the same thing in slightly different words. I wonder who the first person to say something along these lines was.
